John Devereux was born in Pontycymmer during March 1966.

John’s sporting talent was noticed by his PE teacher David Harris and was encouraged to develop his skills.

John made his début for Wales at senior level in 1986 playing against England at Twickenham. He was only nineteen years old and a student at Cardiff College. He went on to win 21 Caps for Wales

John made an impression on his Wales début and was selected for the British Lions v The Rest of the World at Cardiff in the same year.

John went on to play for Wales in the 1987 Inaugural Rugby Union World Cup in New Zealand & Australia. He scored tries against Canada, England and most famously against the All Blacks in the semi-final.

In 1989 John toured Australia with the British & Irish Lions under the captaincy of Scotland’s Finlay Calder. The Lions won the series 2-1 despite losing the first test.

Having retired in 2006 from a very successful rugby career John has become a very popular After Dinner Speaker speaking at events throughout the UK.

John has developed his own unique style with stories based on his own personal experiences of playing top level rugby league and union over twenty years.

John is a keen golfer and plays at many charity and company golfing events.
