John Simonett is a former schoolmaster and sportsman. He played Rugby Union and was a cup winner with the Gloucester club against the Leicester Tigers at Twickenham. He captained the Scottish U19 team and was a regular member of the senior Scottish squad during his club career.
He holds a first class honours degree from Bristol University, majoring in psychology. In 1985 he left teaching to become a professional speaker and conference presenter, and is now firmly established as one of the most original and entertaining speakers on the “circuit”. He has appeared at many conferences and other corporate events, both in the U.K. and abroad. His clients include many blue chip companies, several of whom have used his services on a number of occasions.
What does he speak about?
John can speak either after dinner (or lunch), or deliver an entertaining conference keynote speech on Creativity and Innovation.
As an after-dinner speaker his aim is to present an entertaining and amusing speech that is stimulating, thought provoking and appropriate. He believes in being funny without using material that is risqué, but intelligent and clean. He does not tell “jokes” but uses humour relevant to the occasion in the form of quips and well-researched topical one-liners. He is well known for doing his “homework”, and always requires a full briefing before each event so he can tailor his speech to the occasion. He also has a phenomenal, trained memory, and often memorises numerous delegate names and other company information, which he skillfully weaves into his speeches.
He is a specialist in “ambushing” corporate audiences as a surprise – often being introduced as a serious speaker on a “dull” topic until it gradually dawns on them that all is not what it seems!
