Robin Smith made his first-class debut in his native South Africa aged 15, and it wasn’t to long before he followed his elder brother Chris to Hampshire in the early 1980’s.
 
By the time he was 24 England came calling, and throughout the late 80’s and early 90’s Robin was regarded as England’s most commanding middle order batsman.
Teams played for included: Natal, Marylebone and Hampshire. Smith was Club Captain of Hampshire from 1998 – 2002.
 
Robin Smith was one of the most influential players in the history of Hampshire cricket. Not only did he score 18,984 runs and scored 49 first-class hundreds in 307 matches, he also won the hearts and minds of Hampshire supporters everywhere.

In total, the South African born batsman has scored over 42000 runs including 88 Centuries. He played for England in 62 Test Matches and 71 One-day Internationals.
