Michael Vaughan, former Yorkshire CCC and England opener and outstanding Test captain. His golden year was 2002-03 when he established himself as the world’s number one batsman, amassing 663 runs in the Ashes series. Four years later in 2005 in England it got even better, down to his leadership and some remarkable team performances with a never-to-be-forgotten 2-1 Ashes victory over Australia. Vaughan went on to make more than 160 England appearances, with his greatest moment being Captain of that 2005 series when England won the Ashes’ for the first time since 1986.

Manchester-born Michael skippered Yorkshire and won a record 26 games as captain of England in 51 Tests. Awarded the OBE following the Ashes triumph, he scored 5,179 runs in 82 Tests at an average 41.44. His career haul was 7,238 runs, average 29.18. He was also an occasional off-spin bowler who took 78 career wickets. Following his injury-forced retirement, he has become an entertaining and enlightened member of the BBC’s Test Match Special team, and also gives expert input to the Channel 5 highlights coverage of Tests.

Since retirement in 2009, Vaughan has become a regular figure and personality on television (Strictly Come Dancing !) and has turned his hand to commentary; these traits have translated across to his accomplished performances as a cricket speaker and an after dinner speaker.

Vaughan has also become a proficient and renowned commentator, giving his advice and knowledge to BBCs TMS coverage and being an integral member of Australia’s Channel 9 2013/14 Ashes’ coverage. A multi-talented individual who has experienced both ends of the sporting spectrum, Michael Vaughan has plenty of experiences and knowledge which he can use in his role as an after dinner speaker and cricket speaker.
