Christopher Cowdrey
Christopher Cowdrey was born on 20 Oct 1957. He followed his fathers footsteps into the cricket arena and represented Kent and England, and was later captain of England, until injury sadly prevented his further progress.Chris is part of the Cowdrey dynasty. Chris together with his brother Graham, ensured that a Cowdrey was on the Kent team sheet for 48 successive years including his late father.
Chris was educated at Tonbridge School (1970-1975) and had four years in the cricket XI, before he became a regular member of Kent’s great team of the late 1970’s and was awarded his County Cap in 1979. In 1984 he was selected for the victorious England tour to India, where he played all five Test Matches and three one-day Internationals. With only his fourth ball in Test Cricket, he took the wicket of Kapil Dev in Bombay.
Chris was made captain of Kent from 1985-1990 and he was appointed captain of England in 1988. The following year, he was awarded a Testimonial for his services to cricket. Off the field, Chris has written two cricket books, including an autobiography entitled “Good Enough?” in 1986.
After the conclusion of Chris’s successful playing career he joined BBC’s cricket broadcasting team on “Test Match Special” before becoming the lead presenter and commentator for Talksport Radio, and is now a regular summariser on Sky Television.
Chris is renowned for his great humour as a full-time after dinner speaker, and also specializes in teaching public speaking and leadership skills.
